Where We're Headed
Since 2001 we've established working partnerships with a number of knowledgeable and effective people and organizations in Kenya.  We are dedicated to continuing our efforts on the ground.

Educating with Film
We have been showing the films of the African Environmental Film Foundation in rural and remote communities around Kenya. Our focus has been in the areas around Tsavo East and West National Parks as well as the Mt Kenya.  This work is on-going, and very important to provide the backbone of knowledge to inform much needed change in current unsustainable practices.

Anti-Poaching
We continue to actively support anti poaching activities. As we move forward, we feel that Amara can best help in these efforts by directly funding teams on the ground where help is most needed.

Baraza Program
Baraza is the Kiswahili word for an open, public meeting at which members of a community come together to hold dialogue on issues of concern to the collective group.  Amara was asked in the Autumn of 2004 to facilitate new barazas in rural communities identified as poaching ‘hotspots’. The Barazas were led by a group from the Kenya Wildlife Service, the David Sheldrick wildlife Trust, the Taita Taveta Wildlife Forum, World Vision, and the Kenya Public Health Department.

It is a new way to reach people, in a group-led discussion on topics about the environment. -  What comprises our natural environment? What problems do we face? How are we going to address them? The initial results have been very encouraging and we will continue to expand this program. We show the AEFF films, and provide the platform for people to start to discuss the real issues that lead to destruction of the wildlife and environment and lead to finding solutions.
